1. Collective recognition of the Indies and Moluccans inhabitants of The Netherlands - "COMING OUT OF THE HELL OF PACIFIC WAR" - 75 years later" - APPROVED

The project aims at "unpacking" the many "suitcases" of unprocessed war trauma and dig the "gold" out of the courageous history of Netherlands Indie while shining light on the glory of their cultural heritage."

"COMING OUT OF THE HELL OF PACIFIC WAR" honors the cultural heritage of the Indies and Moluccan community in The Netherlands and acknowledges their experience during World War II in the Dutch East Indies (nowadays Indonesia), also known as Pacific War.
It reconstructs for future generations what they had to endure upon arrival back to their new homeland Netherlands.

Within the project lifespan, the Institute for Promoting Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging will publish and popularize an authentic Pacific War Diary from a World War II Dutch survivor. It covers 1942 till 1962 (all actions taking place in the Pacific). Additional envisioned activities:


- Podcasts with psychologists;
- Digital stories of the #indieheroes;
- Public talks with Dutch Indie 1st, 2ndand 3rd generation war survivors;
- School activities to support Dutch Indie children feel rooted in The Netherlands with their culture.
